What’s changing
OpenAI and the U.S. General Services Administration are announcing a new, multi-year OneGov agreement, with OpenAI extending the same offer to eligible Federal, state, and local governments and tribal nations.
The offer includes:
- No monthly license fee, reduced from the standard $15 per user.
- 50% off usage costs, with no minimum commitment.
- Practical adoption support, including onboarding, webinars, guidance on managing usage and spending, and expanded learning resources through OpenAI Academy.
Usage costs still apply. The agreement runs from October 1, 2026, through December 31, 2028.
Start with the work you know
Broader access creates an opportunity to bring more public servants into the conversation about how AI can help.
You don’t need to begin with a sweeping transformation plan. Start with a familiar task: preparing a briefing, making a public-facing explanation clearer, or organizing information for a project. Where could a little support give you more time for the work that needs your expertise?
Choose a task that fits your organization’s policies, try it with approved tools and information, and review the results. Share what helped, what needed correction, and what you would try differently next time. Those experiences can help colleagues learn, too.
