ChatGPT Edu 101 for K-12

Join the OpenAI Education team for a practical introduction to ChatGPT Edu and its everyday applications across K–12 schools and districts. Designed for teachers, school staff, and education leaders, this live session will help participants understand how to get started with ChatGPT and use it thoughtfully to support teaching, communication, planning, and administrative work.

We’ll walk through the ChatGPT Edu workspace, demonstrate how to write clear prompts, and show how adding context and asking follow-up questions can improve a response. Examples will include developing lesson and unit plans, adapting instructional materials, drafting family and staff communications, summarizing information, organizing ideas, and preparing for meetings or professional learning.

In this session, you’ll learn how to:

• Navigate the ChatGPT Edu workspace and begin a productive conversation.

• Write stronger prompts using clear goals, context, audiences, and constraints.

• Improve responses through follow-up questions and iteration.

• Apply ChatGPT to common teaching, planning, communication, and administrative tasks.

• Review outputs for accuracy, relevance, and alignment with your district’s expectations.

• Use ChatGPT responsibly while following district guidance around privacy and appropriate information sharing.

No prior ChatGPT experience is required. Participants who already have access to their district’s ChatGPT Edu workspace are encouraged to sign in before the session.

This session will be recorded and made available to participants who cannot attend live. A second offering covering the same foundational material is scheduled for September 8; participants only need to attend one 101 session.
