How a Bangalore School Is Training Teachers for the AI Era
At Delhi Public School Bangalore North, Principal Manju Balasubramanyam wants to make sure students are ready to flourish in the AI era. Her solution: having more than 350 of her teachers complete OpenAI’s new ChatGPT Foundations for Teachers program, which is designed to help educators incorporate AI into their day-to-day work. The training, which started in 2025, was paired with free access to ChatGPT Go, giving the teachers preparing today’s students for tomorrow’s AI-driven world both the skills and the tools to use ChatGPT more creatively and effectively inside the classroom. “OpenAI training has not replaced originality; it has made it non-negotiable,” Balasubramanyam said. “By handling the predictable, it has pushed teachers and students to own what machines cannot: judgment with humanity, creativity with empathy, and meaning with purpose.” Delhi Public School Bangalore North is a K-12 school known for its academic excellence and tree-lined campus. Now, it’s becoming known for something else: a vivid example of how ChatGPT Foundations for Teachers is giving educators practical instruction in how to navigate and personalize the tool, and how to apply it to classroom and administrative needs. The course is designed to be accessible and useful right away, reflecting OpenAI’s belief that teachers will shape how the next generation learns to use this technology with confidence and responsibility. That’s playing out on the ground in Bangalore. The school’s own analysis found that many of the teachers who completed the course are actively using ChatGPT for teaching and planning, freeing them to focus on what matters most: their students. The report also found that teachers felt confident using the tool, with many reporting no challenges in doing so. English teacher Lakshita Rai described the impact in her classroom this way: “OpenAI has shifted classroom expectations. It is used as a benchmark that pushes students to create imaginatively and reason more logically than the tool itself.” Together, the Foundations program and ChatGPT Go reflect a broader commitment to supporting teachers globally as AI reshapes learning and teaching. And for DPS Bangalore North, the early momentum is already prompting another question. During a recent visit, the school’s leadership asked when OpenAI plans to expand ChatGPT Foundations beyond teachers—to include students in grades 9 through 12.
